UNITY-6G Coordinator Engin Zeydan engages with ITU-T Focus Group on AI-Native Networks in Geneva

On July 11, 2025, Engin Zeydan, UNITY-6G’s coordinator participated in the 4th meeting of the ITU-T Focus Group on Artificial Intelligence Native for Telecommunication Networks (FG-AINN) held in Geneva, Switzerland. This significant gathering occurred alongside the AI for Good Global Summit and the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS)+20 High-Level Event 2025, underscoring the critical intersection of AI, telecommunications, and global digital development.

The FG-AINN meeting brought together a diverse group of networking technology experts from leading network operators, technology vendors, standards developing organizations (SDO), and academia. Their collective aim is to shape the future of telecommunications by integrating artificial intelligence fundamentally into network design.

About ITU-T FG-AINN

Established by ITU-T Study Group 13 and launched after WTSA-24, the ITU-T Focus Group on AI-Native for Telecommunication Networks (FG-AINN) is dedicated to exploring and defining the foundational shifts required in network architecture to fully leverage AI’s transformative potential.

Unlike traditional networks that integrate AI as an external add-on, AI-native networks are conceived with intelligence at their very core. This paradigm shift promises groundbreaking capabilities, including self-management, self-healing, and autonomous optimization. These advancements are crucial for meeting the escalating demands of future digital services and applications.

FG-AINN’s work is concentrated on several key areas:

  • Embedding AI deeply within network architecture: Moving beyond superficial integration to create truly intelligent network foundations.
  • Identifying innovative use cases: Exploring how AI-native networks can enable advancements in areas like smart cities and autonomous systems.
  • Addressing current technological gaps and standardization challenges: Overcoming hurdles to ensure seamless development and deployment.
  • Building synergies with other standard development organizations and industry stakeholders: Fostering collaboration to achieve a unified vision for AI-native telecommunications.

The participation in FG-AINN meetings highlights UNITY-6G’s commitment to staying at the forefront of telecommunications innovation and contributing to the global standardization efforts for future 6G networks.
