UNITY-6G has successfully concluded its 4th Face-to-Face (F2F) Plenary meeting, held on January 20-22, 2026 at the German Aerospace Center (DLR) in Wessling, near Munich. This three-day event marked a pivotal moment for the consortium as it moves into the critical implementation and integration phase of the project.
Advancing the AI-Native Architecture
The meeting kicked off with sessions focused on Impact Creation, Architecture and Use Cases, and Network Intelligence and Data Exposure. Partners engaged in a detailed “unification” discussion to ensure that the UNITY-6G architecture seamlessly integrates diverse domains, including Non-Public Networks (NPN) and Open RAN.

From Theory to Implementation
On the second day, the focus shifted toward AI activities and service development lifecycles. Technical partners presented progress on:
- AI Activities: Mapping the activities with project KPIs and PoCs
- Conflict Mitigation: Addressing hierarchical challenges in 6G management.
- SDLC for 6G: Finalizing the service development path for the project’s unique deliverables.
- IDMO Interaction: Exploring the theoretical and practical mapping of the Integrated Domain Management and Orchestration (IDMO).
A Glimpse into the Future: DLR Lab Tour
A major highlight of the Munich plenary was an exclusive tour of the DLR Laboratories. This provided partners with a unique opportunity to witness advanced research in satellite communications and robotics, reinforcing the project’s commitment to advancing the field.

Looking Ahead: Proof of Concepts (PoCs)
The final day was dedicated to the project’s Proof of Concepts. Detailed status updates were provided for the upcoming demonstrations, including:
- PoC 1: Immersive XR and holographic communications.
- PoC 2: Multi-RAT O-RAN enabled NPNs for Industry 4.0.
- Digital Twin Evaluation: Leveraging network twinning for real-time sustainability and performance monitoring.
As the meeting wrapped up, the consortium set its sights on the upcoming events including the 2026 Software & Standards for Smart Networks & Services Conference, WONS 2026, the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2026, and the EuCNC & 6G Summit 2026, where they plan to demonstrate UNITY-6G’s progress.
UNITY-6G continues to lead the way in creating a scalable, sustainable, and trustworthy 6G framework for Europe. Stay tuned for more updates as we enter the second year of the project!
