We are thrilled to announce that Carla Amatetti, Junior Assistant Professor at the University of Bologna and a key contributor to UNITY-6G, has been recognised on the “100 Brilliant and Inspiring Women in 6G” List for 2026.
Announced annually on February 14th by the Women in 6G™ community, the list celebrates female excellence in a field historically dominated by men. Carla was highlighted as a “Rising Star,” a category reserved for researchers bringing fresh perspectives and transformative energy to the future of wireless connectivity.
A Visionary in Non-Terrestrial Networks (NTN)
Carla’s journey into the heart of 6G began with a fascination for the physical layer—the fundamental bedrock of communication. After gaining industrial experience at the Fiat Research Center, where she explored 5G applications for vehicular technology, she transitioned into academia to push the boundaries of satellite and space communications.
Currently a Junior Assistant Professor in the Digital Communication (DigiComm) group at the University of Bologna’s Department of Electrical, Electronic, and Information Engineering (DEI), Carla’s research is pivotal to the global shift toward integrated 6G ecosystems.
Impact within UNITY-6G
As part of the UNITY-6G consortium, Carla plays an important role in developing energy-efficient and sustainable network infrastructures. Her expertise is particularly critical in:
- Physical Layer Innovation: Designing flexible waveforms and advanced synchronisation for Non-Terrestrial Networks (NTN).
- AI-Driven Connectivity: Contributing to Neural Network-empowered traffic off-loading techniques that allow networks to handle massive data loads more sustainably.
- Global Collaboration: Representing the project through research funded by the European Space Agency (ESA) and the European Commission.
Academic and Professional Excellence
Beyond her research, Carla is an active mentor, teaching “Principles of Digital Communication” and “Telecommunication Software Laboratory.” Her international experience includes a significant tenure at the University of Luxembourg, where she focused on NB-IoT via NTN, further cementing her status as a global expert in satellite-terrestrial convergence. Since 2024, she has also served as the Panel and Tutorial Co-Chair of the IEEE ASMS Conference.
The UNITY-6G consortium celebrates Carla not only for her technical brilliance but for her role as a mentor and leader shaping the next generation of engineers. Between her instructional roles at the University of Bologna and her leadership as Panel and Tutorial Co-Chair for the IEEE ASMS Conference, she is a driving force in the global 6G dialogue.
