Carmela Occhipinti appointed as External Ethics Advisor for UNITY-6G

The UNITY-6G consortium is pleased to announce the appointment of Carmela Occhipinti, Co-founder of CyberEthicsLab., as the project’s External Ethics Advisor.

Mrs. Occhipinti brings a wealth of expertise in the ethical and social implications of emerging technologies. A political scientist, researcher, and innovation manager, she graduated in International Law from the University of Rome “La Sapienza” and embarked on her career at one of Italy’s leading ICT companies. Over her 24-year tenure, she gained extensive experience in various capacities, ultimately being appointed to lead the Security and Privacy Lab. In this leadership position, she developed profound insights into how technology, privacy, and society intersect.

Her professional credentials include PMP, ITIL Expert, PRINCE2, and SCRUM Master certifications. She is also a member of the Italian Chapter of the International Information Security System Certification Consortium (ISC)². With an academic and professional background spanning legal privacy frameworks, ethical analysis, and innovation management, Mrs. Occhipinti has become a respected voice in shaping responsible technology practices across Europe.

In her role as External Ethics Advisor for UNITY-6G, Mrs. Occhipinti will provide strategic guidance on the ethical, legal, and privacy dimensions of the project’s research and development activities. Drawing on her experience with other European Commission-funded initiatives, she will support the consortium in aligning project goals with the highest ethical standards and ensuring robust data protection practices.

Her appointment reinforces UNITY-6G’s commitment to integrating ethical foresight into the development of next-generation communication technologies.
