On September 15, 2025, UNITY-6G representatives took part in the ELIXIRION Schools 3 & 4, held at the prestigious Barcelona Supercomputing Center (BSC). The event brought together researchers, industry experts, and young scientists to explore the latest developments in non-terrestrial networks (NTN), edge computing, and related emerging technologies shaping the 6G era.
Engin Zeydan, UNITY-6G Project Coordinator, presented recent advances in data engineering within the context of 6G research and deployment. Luis Blanco, the project’s Scientific Coordinator, delivered an insightful talk on O-RAN-based NTN and the application of Kolmogorov–Arnold Networks (KANs) for satellite and edge computing systems.
Their contributions showcased UNITY-6G’s ongoing efforts to bridge theoretical innovation and practical implementation in future communication systems, particularly focusing on intelligent, adaptive, and energy-efficient network designs.
The ELIXIRION Schools are part of the ELIXIRION Project, a four-year initiative running from November 2023 to October 2027. These training programs aim to equip advanced students and researchers with the skills needed to push the boundaries of next-generation communication technologies. Schools 3 & 4 specifically covered topics such as NTN, edge computing, artificial intelligence, nanonetworks, and cloud-native technologies.
Hosted at BSC, one of Europe’s leading supercomputing facilities, the event fostered collaboration across academia and industry, emphasizing the role of 6G in advancing sectors such as healthcare, connectivity, and sustainability.
The ELIXIRION Project envisions leveraging 6G technologies to revolutionize Healthcare 4.0, creating a dynamic training and research network that integrates communication technologies with health innovation. By doing so, it aims to shape a future where healthcare is advanced, inclusive, and responsive to societal needs. For more information about the project, visit https://elixirion-mc.eu/.
