On April 14–15, 2025, UNITY-6G Coordinator proudly participated in the 2nd meeting of the ITU-T Focus Group on AI-Native for Telecommunication Networks (FG-AINN), held in Istanbul, Türkiye, and hosted by Turkcell.
Representing the project, UNITY-6G Coordinator Engin Zeydan presented the project’s Sustainable Networks for Disaster Handling Use Case and the Corresponding Architecture, highlighting UNITY-6G’s innovative vision for leveraging AI to support disaster resilience in future networks. In his presentation, he underlined how UNITY-6G’s research aligns with the goals of FG-AINN—specifically, in designing AI-native network architectures capable of managing extreme and unpredictable situations, such as natural disasters.
About FG-AINN
The ITU-T Focus Group on AI-Native for Telecommunication Networks (FG-AINN) was established by ITU-T Study Group 13 and launched after WTSA-24. Its mission is to explore and define the foundational shifts needed in network architecture to fully exploit the transformative potential of AI.
Unlike conventional networks that integrate AI as an external enhancement, AI-native networks are designed with intelligence at their core. These networks promise groundbreaking capabilities—such as self-management, self-healing, and autonomous optimization—essential for meeting the growing demands of future digital services. FG-AINN’s work focuses on:
- Embedding AI deeply within network architecture;
- Identifying innovative use cases such as smart cities and autonomous systems;
- Addressing current technological gaps and standardization challenges;
- Building synergies with other standard development organizations and industry stakeholders.
