On May 19-22, 2025, UNITY-6G partner Javier Velázquez Martinez from Telefónica participated actively in the TFS#7 Hackfest and Ecosystem Day, held in Castelldefels, Spain. The hands-on event brought together the ETSI Software Development Group (SDG) TeraFlowSDN (TFS) developer community, drawing network engineers, open-source contributors, and researchers dedicated to advanced 5G and 6G network orchestration.

During the event, Javier delivered a technical tutorial and live demonstration showcasing the integration of the Network Slice Controller (NSC) within the open-source TeraFlowSDN ecosystem. The NSC is a critical new architectural component designed to implement the lifecycle management—including creation, modification, and deletion (CRUD) operations—of IETF Network Slices.
Telefónica’s contribution highlighted how UNITY-6G leverages and drives open-source frameworks to enable flexible, standardized end-to-end connectivity across multi-domain infrastructures. During the collaborative hacking sessions, developers and researchers worked together to advance the software’s capabilities.
Key technical contributions during the hackfest included:
- Validating seamless communication for slice CRUD operations between the NSC and TeraFlowSDN
- Enhancing capabilities for provisioning and managing L2VPN and L3VPN network slices
- Exploring database structures and message topics for Network Resource Partitioning (NRP)
- Developing mechanisms for real-time network slice monitoring within TFS
The TFS#7 Hackfest served as an excellent platform for UNITY-6G to align its research outputs with global open-source developments, fostering deeper community collaboration to accelerate the evolution of automated 6G architectures.
