UNITY-6G Showcases Innovation at IEEE NetSoft 2025 in Budapest

On June 23-27, 2025, UNITY-6G partners participated in the 11th IEEE International Conference on Network Softwarization (NetSoft 2025), organized in Budapest, Hungary, under the theme “Sustainable and secure networks for distributed AI and compute.” As the premier global venue for exploring advances in network softwarization, NetSoft brought together experts to discuss the convergence of networking, software, and adjacent digital technologies shaping the future of telecommunications.

A key highlight of UNITY-6G’s participation was the involvement of Engin Zeydan, UNITY-6G Coordinator who delivered a well-received presentation during a Tutorial titled “Redefining Telecommunications: Data Engineering and Blockchain for B5G/6G Networks.”

The tutorial provided an in-depth overview of the intersection between data engineering and blockchain within next-generation networks. It emphasized the integration of data lifecycle components—such as ingestion, processing, visualization, and orchestration—into telecommunications, and explored the potential of Distributed Ledger Technologies (DLT) for enabling secure and decentralized B5G/6G architectures. Attendees were also shown two live demonstrations that illustrated practical applications of these emerging technologies in future network deployments.

In addition to the tutorial, UNITY-6G partners presented a demo titled “Full Orchestration of a Distributed 5G Cloud-native Mobile Network: O-RAN, Core, and Transport.” This collaborative demonstration showcased seamless orchestration across key domains of a distributed 5G network, involving O-RAN components, 5G Core, and transport layers.

The demo exemplified how disaggregated 5G network functions can be fully orchestrated in real time using cloud-native principles and open interfaces, reflecting the project’s strong alignment with industry trends toward openness, programmability, and automation. This opens the door to the use of AI-driven orchestration to enhance network efficiency and flexibility, demonstrating how UNITY-6G’s framework can adapt to complex multi-domain environments while ensuring end-to-end service continuity.

The demonstration was a joint effort between several UNITY-6G partners, including CTTC, Software Radio Systems (SRS), and Telefónica.
