UNITY-6G Showcases Network Orchestration Demo at IEEE INFOCOM 2025

On May 19-22, 2025, UNITY-6G representatives proudly participated in IEEE INFOCOM 2025, one of the most prestigious conferences for the networking research community. Held annually, IEEE INFOCOM serves as a key venue for researchers to present and exchange groundbreaking ideas and developments in networking and related fields. This year’s edition featured a comprehensive technical program, interactive workshops, keynote speeches, panels, student poster sessions, and engaging demo/poster exhibitions.

As part of the demo session held on Tuesday, May 20, Jordi Baranda (CTTC) presented UNITY-6G’s demonstration titled “End-to-End Slice Orchestration in a 5G Cloud-Native Mobile Network with O-RAN Split 7.2.” The demonstration received strong interest from attendees and sparked insightful discussions with researchers and industry experts.

The showcased system contributes to the evolving domain of cloud-native mobile network orchestration. It highlights UNITY-6G’s vision of a more flexible, open, and intelligent network infrastructure by enabling the disaggregated and distributed deployment of mobile network components—from the core to the RAN—leveraging open-source software.

Key features of the demo included:

  • Support for end-to-end network slicing, with configurations that can be activated on-demand;
  • Integration of O-RAN Split 7.2 for over-the-air transmissions using commercial hardware;
  • A practical illustration of how novel network paradigms can accelerate innovation in mobile network architecture and management.

This successful demonstration underlines UNITY-6G’s commitment to driving forward the research and development of next-generation mobile networks, in alignment with its goal to enable intelligent, flexible, and sustainable 6G systems.

Stay tuned for more updates as UNITY-6G continues to engage with the academic and industrial research communities to shape the future of connectivity.
