UNITY-6G actively participated in the 12th Advanced Satellite Multimedia Systems Conference (ASMS) and the 18th Signal Processing for Space Communications Workshop (SPSC), held on February 26-28, 2025, in Sitges, Spain.
This premier event, jointly organized by ESA and three UNITY-6G partners—German Aerospace Center (DLR), Telecommunications Technology Center of Catalonia (CTTC), and University of Bologna (UNIBO), brought together leading experts from academia, industry, and policy to discuss the integration of NTN into the next generation of mobile networks.
The opening ceremony featured warm welcome remarks from Sandro Scalise (DLR), Ana Perez Neira (CTTC) and Alberto Ginesi (ESA) followed by a brief talk on how the 3D multilayered architecture was first presented at this very conference in 2008 delivered by UNITY-6G project partner Alessandro Vanelli-Coralli (UNIBO).
A key highlight of the event was the session “Overview of Ongoing NTN-Related EC/SNS Projects”, moderated by Bernard Barani (6G-IA). In this session, Luis Blanco (CTTC), UNITY-6G Scientific Coordinator, presented UNITY-6G vision and its expected contributions to advancing NTN within the European 6G research ecosystem. The session also featured insights from other key projects, including 6G-NTN, 5G-STARDUST, NexaSphere, and ETHER, underscoring their collective efforts shaping the future of NTN.
As a pivotal platform for the satellite communications community, ASMS/SPSC 2025 provided an opportunity to engage with cutting-edge research, attend keynotes and tutorials, and foster collaboration between academia and industry.
